After leaving our place near Arles, we drove to Aigues-Mortes (pronounced egg mort), an old Templar castle, and viewed the impressive outer fortifications. Faced with ominous looking clouds and drops of rain, we quickly departed to our next destination, Carcassonne. What should have been a relatively short drive was prolonged by an accident that held us up for at least an hour and a half. Upon arriving at Carcassonne, we had a quick bite to eat and walked up to the old city where we saw more medieval walls and towers. (NS)
